Alright, so technically the Golden Age ended in the early 1960’s but I still wanted to share a post about Hello Dolly. This film came out in 1969 a couple years after the Golden Age, I consider it a classic. Not only is it a wonderful musical but it has some of the best known singers and actors.
This film is about a matchmaker named Dolly who travels to a town in New York city called Yonkers. Her mission is to find Horace Vandergelder of course a match so that he can marry. To the world he is a “well known half millionaire” looking for someone to share his life with. What he does not realize is that Dolly is the one seeking for his love.
I loved this film not only for the amazing music and costumes, but for the famous role of Dolly played by the talented Barbara Streisand.
Now for the reason that I chose to post about this film today was because of its popular song called ” Put on your Sunday Clothes”. Considering that it is Sunday after all I could not help but sing to this tune which has made my Sunday a lot more cheerful.
In the spirit of Christmas, I have decided to share my absolute favorite film to watch during the holidays. This film brings back memories of when I was growing up. It is a remembrance of when I was a child spending time with my family, snuggled up in a blanket and drinking hot cocoa.
Its a Wonderful Life
Director: Frank Capra
Starring: James Stewart and Donna Reed
In this classic holiday film, it follows the story of a young man named George Bailey. He is searching for adventure but finds his plans of travel put on hold. Instead he is forced to take over his fathers bank when he unexpectedly passes away. George settles into town, starts a family and becomes a business man. He becomes stressed with his responsibilities and thinks that his life has no meaning until he meets an angel who is determined to change his mind.
Its a Wonderful Life is more then just a classic film, to me it has become a family tradition and I look forward to watching it for many Christmases to come.
