Cheek to Cheek was written by a man named Irving Berlin in the year 1935. He wrote it specifically for the film Top Hat, which starred Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. It has an iconic scene of Astaire singing the song to the beautiful Ginger Rogers as they slow danced across a ballroom full of people. Top Hat became a big hit in Hollywood and was nominated for the Academy Award for best picture, dance direction, art direction and of course original song. Cheek to Cheek became an instant classic and is still used in other films today.

Now I would like to share a little bit about the brilliant man who created this famous song, Irving Berlin. He was born on May 23, 1888 and died on September 22, 1989 at the age of 101. He was a well respected songwriter, composer, and lyricist. He received four awards, nine nominations, and a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. His music has had a huge impact in film and will continue to do so for many generations to come.

A few of his other brilliant creations:

What’ll I Do (1924)

Always (1925)

Blue Skies (1926)

Puttin’ on the Ritz (1928)
